Article 17 of Indian constitution in Hindi : भारतीय संविधान के 17 अनुच्छेद अश्पृश्यता को अंत (Abolition of Untouchability) करने के लिए काम करता है। यह अश्पृश्यता को किसी भी रूप में काम करने को निषेध करता है और यह कहता है कि अश्पृश्यता से उत्पन्न किसी भी कमजोरी को प्रवण करने को कानून द्वारा दण्डित किया जाएगा। यह भारत में अश्पृश्यता और जाति के आधार पर उत्पन्न हुई नकारात्मक छवि को नष्ट करने के लिए काम करता है।

सन 1955 मे अस्पृश्यता (अपराध) अधिनियम बनाया गया था। जिसको 1 जून, 1955 से प्रभावी किया गया था, लेकिन अप्रैल 1965 में एक समिति का गठन हुआ I गठित समिति का नाम इलायापेरूमल समिति था I सन 1976 मे इलायापेरूमल समिति की अनुशंसाओं के आधार पर अस्पृश्यता (अपराध) अधिनियम में व्यापक संशोधन किये गए I और अस्पृश्यता (अपराध) अधिनियम का नाम बदलकर नागरिक अधिकार संरक्षण अधिनियम, 1955 (Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955) कर दिया गया था।

भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 17 का सम्बन्ध अस्पृश्यता के अंत से है। अनुच्छेद 17 के तहत छुआछूत को समाप्त किया गया है।
अनुच्छेद 17 से सम्बंधित महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी अस्पृश्यता अपराध अधिनियम (The Untouchability Offences Act 1955) के तहत अस्पृश्यता (छूआछूत) दंडनीय अपराध है।
अस्पृश्यता अपराध अधिनियम (The Untouchability Offences Act 1955) के प्रमुख प्रावधान1. यह एक दंडनीय अपराध है , जिसमे किसी भी तरीके से माफी नही दी जा सकती है।
2. अपराध साबित होने पर 6 मास का कारावास या 500 रू. जुर्माना या दोनों, हो सकते है।
3. संसद या राज्यविधान के चुनाव मे खड़े हुये किसी उम्मीदवार पर आरोप साबित होता है तो उसको अयोग्य घोषित कर दिया जाएगा।
